“Sigo Siendo El Rey” are lyrics from the classic Mexican ballad “El Rey” (“The King”) by Mexican singer José Alfredo Jiménez. In this verse, the protagonist of the song—a macho man—claims that regardless of lacking certain social status markers (money, spouse, throne, spoils, friends, etc.), he is still the king.
In graffiti culture, it is not uncommon for a graffiti writer to go “all out” and abandon conventional social status milestones in order to become an All City King. But it comes at a cost, for in the pursuit of greatness, he ends up with nothing but a self-proclamation.
